A quick google search of “latin females streoytypes” brings up images of thinly- clad avocado colored, raven https://www.rd.com/list/female-firsts/ haired, reddish- lipped, curvy women. This fetishization of Latinas in the media is n’t just embarrassing, but it also has serious consequences. It exacerbates belittling and can lead to prejudice. It can even promote dating violence and improve sexual abuse of young girls.
The strangeness and fetishizing of female body turns them into bare materials to become won and showcased. This is not to say that there are n’t some positive stereotypes of latina women, but the majority of portrayals in our mediascape leave out a whole community. This typecasting of latinas you reduce their ability by internalizing the photograph that world puts back of them.
Also, these stereotypes may become harmful to expat communities because they can energy extra- immigrant views and reinforce the idea that Latinas do n’t belong in the workforce or contribute to the economy.
